This lake is so wonderful. Meadow Lake is one of the lakes here in the Sawtooth Range. This lake is so wonderful. Near Meadow Lake you find the Yellow Belly Trail which is a good hiking trail, and if you came for an overnight stay Iron Creek Campground is a tremendous place to camp. Going for a hike on the Black Warrior Creek Trail is always a great adventure; there are other locations here than Meadow Lake, for example Three Lake. From a rain point of

| | view Meadow Lake is a reasonably typical place; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most snow while July is typically the driest month. Be careful coming to the Sawtooth Range, you might not ever wanna go back home again. There is a brilliant hiking trail close to Meadow Lake called the Bull Moose Trail; whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Salmon River. for a brilliant time. After a long day outdoors Greyhawk by ResortQuest is a brilliant spot to spend a night or two, and Drop Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth stopping at. So many enjoyable things to do here
at Meadow Lake, too pleasant to be true. A glorious vista of pretty Cony Peak is available from Meadow Lake; Grandjean Campground is a nice campground nearby. At Meadow Lake during the days of summer highs are in the 80's. For the
duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 40's. Highs through the winter are ordinarily in the 30's, and overnight lows at Meadow Lake through the winter mostly plunge into the 10's. Cony Lake is a fine lake right next door to Meadow Lake; get your heart pumping on the pleasant whitewater of Salmon River.

 | Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk.... |

Hell Roaring Lake
 | Hi, we (wife and I) walked into the lake the 3rd week of July 2008; we took the unmaintained road to about 200 yards from the trailhead. If you take this in lieu of the walk in, plan on a 40 minute drive to cover 5-miles; your vehicle (should be high-center 4-wd) will get scratched up from the branches adjacent to the road. The parking lot holds 6-vehicles...if you encounter another vehicle coming at you, there are very few areas where you can back into/get off the road to let the other pass; it is a 'long way' to back up on a challenging road. To get to the trail head from the parking lot, you will ford 2-branches of the river/stream (10 ? 20? across)...walk across deadfall with the aid of a walking stick...or walk thru the water...just below the knee. We walked in on a tuesday and encountered 15+ people coming/going on the path. Easy 2-mile walk, many mosquitoes...quicker coming back.... |
