     For the period of the warm days of summer, highs typically are in the 80's at Martin Lake. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Martin Lake are in the 10's. Man, is there a lot of exciting things to do in the Sawtooth Range. If you get bored of Martin Lake, you could also have a look at close by Bull Trout Lake, and while you're here you can take a hike along the  
   Blue Bunch Trail. Martin Lake is a beautiful lake in the Sawtooth Range.
A quick journey to Spring Creek in the vicinity of Martin Lake is a nice idea, and Fir Creek Campground is a good local campground. Martin Lake gets a common amount of annual rain; the month of January is the wettest with most of the snow; the driest of the months is July. Have a good hiking adventure along the Bear Valley Creek Trail; Martin Lake is a splendid place to visit for more
 
               than one day, Poker Meadows Campground is a splendid place to camp nearby.
And if that's not enough, there's loads more to do next to Martin Lake. Bear Valley Creek has a magnificent whitewater paddling spot close by, and if the weather is great, you can go for a hike along the Camptender Trail. So many entertaining things to do here in the Sawtooth Range, too great to be true. This lake is so wonderful. In the event that you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Marsh Creek, and Martin Lake is not the only place nearby, Newman Lake is a nearby lake.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....

Elk Lake

Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk....
