All the outdoors entertaining stuff in the Sawtooth Range will keep you coming back time and again. A splendid location for whitewater paddling in close proximity to Lower Cramer Lake is Salmon River. Greyhawk by ResortQuest is a nice place to get some rest, and you can go for a hike on the Bull Moose Trail. Cramer Lake is nearby. Lower Cramer Lake gets a typical amount of precipitation; the month of January is the wettest with most of the snow; the driest month of the year is July. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available
along the Black Warrior Creek Trail, and camping is available at Point Campground. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Sawtooth Range. Upper Cramer Lake is a fine lake in close proximity to Lower Cramer Lake, and why not camp at Heyburn Mountain Campground since you're here at Lower Cramer Lake.

Hell Roaring Lake
 | Hi, we (wife and I) walked into the lake the 3rd week of July 2008; we took the unmaintained road to about 200 yards from the trailhead. If you take this in lieu of the walk in, plan on a 40 minute drive to cover 5-miles; your vehicle (should be high-center 4-wd) will get scratched up from the branches adjacent to the road. The parking lot holds 6-vehicles...if you encounter another vehicle coming at you, there are very few areas where you can back into/get off the road to let the other pass; it is a 'long way' to back up on a challenging road. To get to the trail head from the parking lot, you will ford 2-branches of the river/stream (10 ? 20? across)...walk across deadfall with the aid of a walking stick...or walk thru the water...just below the knee. We walked in on a tuesday and encountered 15+ people coming/going on the path. Easy 2-mile walk, many mosquitoes...quicker coming back.... |
Elk Lake
 | Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk.... |
