This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Best Western Salmon Rapids Lodge is a wonderful choice, and there are some glorious whitewater spots on Hard Creek. John Lake is usually a reasonably dried up place; May is when you get the most rain here while July is typically the driest month. That right there is a heap of enjoyable things already but it goes on, the Salmon River Mountains has it all. A brilliant place like Devils Hole here at John Lake

| | is too fine to miss, and if you came to camp Allison Creek Campground is a magnificent spot to do that. So many cool things next to John Lake, absolutely striking. The Broken Leg Trail offers hiking at its best; Patrick Butte is pretty and can be observed from here. This lake is so wonderful. popular thing to do around John Lake; Lava Butte Trail is a great local trail, unsurprisingly you could also go to Gay Lake since you're here; it's not far at all. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Little Salmon River, and John Lake is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Hazard Campground is a pleasant local campground.
