The Gunsight is a glorious place to pop by nearby, and paddling on Salmon River - Yankee Fork is so much fun. Island Lake gets very little precipitation; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most snow, and July is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. The Kettles is a great place to check out, and the snow is fine at Sun Valley. There's good hiking along the Yellow       Belly Trail, and a glorious close by hotel is Redfish Lake Lodge. Be careful coming to Island Lake, you might not ever want to return back home again. Interesting geology is available here; White Cloud Peaks is close to Island Lake; Island Lake is a wonderful site to camp, Holman Creek Campground is a wonderful site. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Island Lake, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 30's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are                  in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Island Lake temperatures dip to the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Don't forget to take a tremendous little spree to Bighorn Creek, and Salmon River has a perfect whitewater paddling spot close by. Nearby lakes? Sure, Big Boulder Lakes is close to Island Lake.
