    A visit to Gem Lake is always a good idea. That right there is lots already, but it continues; Gem Lake has it all. Get your pulse rate up on the great whitewater of Kootenai, and going for a hike on the North Fork Trail is always a great adventure. High temperatures at Gem Lake during the summertime are in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 40's. Highs during the wintertime are ordinarily in the 30's, and through the dark  
   hours in the wintertime at Gem Lake temperatures drop to the 20's. Stay the night at East Fork Public Campground, and don't leave Gem Lake without first going for a hike along the East Fork Boulder Creek Trail.
This lake is so wonderful. Go for a hike on the Shertz Trail, and some of the water close by flows, like Gem Creek. Gem Lake is one of the lakes here in the Cabinet Mountains. Yeah, come up here to the Cabinet Mountains for a magnificent time. Dry
 
               warm beds await you at Days Inn Sandpoint, and a delightful site for whitewater paddling is Yaak River.
Be careful coming to the Cabinet Mountains, you might not ever wanna return home again. Not far from Gem Lake, you'll hit upon Moose Lake which is a charming lake, and Best Western Kootenai River Inn & Casino is a tremendous site to get some rest. There's so much to do here at Gem Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Porcupine Lake Campground is a great location for that, and the panorama of charming Moose Mountain is magnificent. It is very dried out here at Gem Lake frequently; the month with most of the rain is November; the driest month of the year is July.
