     Gem Lake is always a pleasure to visit. There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Cabinet Mountains. Take a side journey to Gem Creek, and nice hiking is available along the Shertz Trail. Summer at Gem Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 40's. Highs through the wintertime are frequently in the 30's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Gem Lake sink into the 20's. Just  
   can't get enough of Gem Lake. If you came to camp Porcupine Lake Campground is a magnificent location to do that, and Yaak River is a delightful whitewater spot close by.
Gem Lake is one of the lakes here in the Cabinet Mountains. After a long day outdoors Best Western Kootenai River Inn & Casino is a good place to spend a night or two, and if the weather is wonderful, you acquire a delightful sight of Moose Mountain from Gem Lake. This lake is so wonderful.
 
               There's so much to do here at Gem Lake that you need to camp here for a while, East Fork Public Campground is a fine place for that, and a wonderful location for whitewater paddling is Kootenai.
So many cool things to do in the Cabinet Mountains, not sufficient time. If you need a location to stay Sandpoint Super 8 Motel is a great choice, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Gem Lake; East Fork Boulder Creek Trail is a wonderful local trail. Blacktail Lake is a nearby lake that you could go to, and you can go for a hike on the North Fork Trail. Gem Lake gets very little rainfall; through November this area sees the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.
This lake is so wonderful.
