Whohoo, so many entertaining things in one place! The Sawtooth Range is unbeatable! If you need a spot to stay Greyhawk by ResortQuest is a good choice. Now, you may believe that's lots but there's even more exciting stuff to do here in the Sawtooth Range. | | should like Feather Lakes. Lakes are perfect; Bead Lakes is a lake that's in the vicinity of Feather Lakes, and you can stay the night at Iron Creek Campground. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always visit nearby Warbonnet Lake. There's so much to do here at Feather Lakes that you need to camp here for a while, Point Campground is a fine place for that. This lake is so wonderful. you can take a hike along the Black Warrior Creek Trail. Throughout the summertime highs here at Feather Lakes get into the 80's. Summer night lows fall down to the 40's. For the period of the winter the highs are commonly in
the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Feather Lakes. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Salmon River, and you can have a great hiking adventure along the Bull Moose Trail. The annual precipitation here at Feather Lakes is about average; most of the snow falls during January while July is generally the driest month.

 | Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk.... |

Hell Roaring Lake
 | Hi, we (wife and I) walked into the lake the 3rd week of July 2008; we took the unmaintained road to about 200 yards from the trailhead. If you take this in lieu of the walk in, plan on a 40 minute drive to cover 5-miles; your vehicle (should be high-center 4-wd) will get scratched up from the branches adjacent to the road. The parking lot holds 6-vehicles...if you encounter another vehicle coming at you, there are very few areas where you can back into/get off the road to let the other pass; it is a 'long way' to back up on a challenging road. To get to the trail head from the parking lot, you will ford 2-branches of the river/stream (10 ? 20? across)...walk across deadfall with the aid of a walking stick...or walk thru the water...just below the knee. We walked in on a tuesday and encountered 15+ people coming/going on the path. Easy 2-mile walk, many mosquitoes...quicker coming back.... |
