Elk Lake is a beautiful lake in the Salmon River Mountains. You'll in fact wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things in the Salmon River Mountains. If you came to camp State Campground Recreation Site is a brilliant place to do that; you can have a great hiking adventure along the Broken Leg Trail. All through the warm days of summer highs here at Elk Lake reach the 90's while night lows are usually       in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's, and overnight lows throughout the wintertime for Elk Lake tend to be in the 20's. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun things near Elk Lake. After a long day outdoors Best Western Salmon Rapids Lodge is a good place to spend a night or two; do take a hike on the Lava Butte Trail. Elk Lake is a location that is quite waterless regularly; the month with most of the rain is May, and July on the other                  hand is the driest. If you like the outdoors you'll like it here in the Salmon River Mountains. There are some fine whitewater spots on Little Salmon River, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Heavens Gate Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Hazard Creek, and you'll hit upon a delightful lake called Piper Lake. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Elk Lake, you could also explore beautiful Gay Lake; a wonderful spot like Devils Hole here at Elk Lake is too great to miss.
