The annual precipitation here at Elk Lake is about average; during the month of January you get the most snow around here, and the driest month of the year is July. Elk Lake is one of the lakes here in the Sawtooth Range. During the summertime at Elk Lake temperatures are typically in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. All through the winter the highs are usually in the 30's with temperatures at Elk       Lake dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. Soar down the rapids of Salmon River in a kayak, and a wonderful close by hotel is Greyhawk by ResortQuest. Be careful coming to the Sawtooth Range, you might not ever want to go home again. There are other places here than Elk Lake, for example Three Lake, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Elk Lake; Yellow Belly Trail is a great local trail. You simply must have                  a thing about Elk Lake. A quick journey to Drop Creek next to Elk Lake is a nice idea, and not far from Elk Lake you'll come across Limber Lake which is a charming lake. That right there is loads of entertaining things already but it goes on, the Sawtooth Range has it all. Good hiking is available along the Black Warrior Creek Trail; paddling on Salmon River is so much fun. Stay the night at Iron Creek Campground, and you can catch a glimpse of Cony Peak from Elk Lake. Elk Lake is a good spot to visit for more than one day, Grandjean Campground is a good spot to camp nearby, and don't leave Elk Lake without first paying a visit to Fern Falls. This lake is so wonderful.
