Go for a hike on the South Fork Trail, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Panther Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Looking for something close to Echo Lake? Alpine Lake is close by, and Puddin Mountain is clearly visible from Echo Lake. Echo Lake is located in the Salmon River Mountains. Echo Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Crags Campground is a good local campground,       and pleasant hiking is available along the Waterfall Trail. All through the warmest time of the year at Echo Lake temperatures are frequently in the 80's with night lows in the 40's. All through the winter highs are mostly in the 20's while Echo Lake overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 0's. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable things close to Echo Lake. Don't leave Echo Lake without first going for a hike along the Ship Island                  Trail. And that's not everything you can do here in the Salmon River Mountains. Drift down the rapids of Camas Creek in a kayak. There's so much to do here at Echo Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Yellowjacket Campground is a delightful spot for that.
