     If you want a tremendous time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Sawtooth Range. There's just no way anyone can get bored here at Dutch Lake. If you came for an overnight stay Lola Creek Campground is a good site to camp, and why not camp at Thatcher Creek Campground if you're here at Dutch Lake. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Dutch Lake. All through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and  
   all through the dark hours in the winter at Dutch Lake temperatures plunge to the 10's.
This lake is so wonderful. The view of charming Copper Mountain near Dutch Lake is good, and Dutch Lake is not the only spot close by, Newman Lake is a close by lake. Get your pulse rate up on the glorious whitewater of Salmon River - Middle Fork; there's great hiking along the Blue Bunch Trail. Good hiking is available along the Bear Valley Creek Trail, and whitewater
 
               paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Marsh Creek.
Yep, outdoors fun stuff truly is bountiful here in the Sawtooth Range. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Dutch Lake; Camptender Trail is a perfect local trail, and if you get bored of Dutch Lake you could also check out nearby Swamp Lake. Dutch Lake is located in the Sawtooth Range. An average amount of rain falls at Dutch Lake; most of the snow falls all through January; the driest month is July.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....

Elk Lake

Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk....
