There's no way someone can get bored here in the Salmon River Mountains. Going for a hike along the Birch Creek Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. This place, Cougar Lake, it truly has so much outdoors cool stuff. Take a hike on the Singheiser Trail; you can have a great hiking adventure along the Twin Buttes Trail. Cougar Lake is one of the lakes here in the Salmon       River Mountains. For the period of the warm days of summer here at Cougar Lake, high temperatures commonly reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 40's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's, and night lows at Cougar Lake during the winter typically descend into the 0's. Get soaked paddling on Panther Creek, and a wonderful lake like West Fork Lakes is a good location to pop by. Cougar Lake gets very little rainfall;                  the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. So much cool stuff to do in the Salmon River Mountains, not enough time. There's so much to do here at Cougar Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Little West Fork Campground is a nice place for that; Opal Lake is a glorious lake nearby. This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Cougar Lake has to offer, you can camp at Blowfly Campground, and as expected Mink Creek is a charming stream that is worth taking a look at.
