     Nearby lakes? Sure, Steamboat Lake is close to Cooks Lake, and whitewater paddling is good on Salmon River - South Fork. Not much rain falls here at Cooks Lake; May is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. All the outdoors fun things in the Salmon River Mountains will keep you coming back time and again. You get a fine vista of Cottontail Point from Cooks Lake; paddling on Secesh River is so much fun.

   here at Cooks Lake, you could have a look at Smithy Creek, and you can go for a hike on the South Fork Sheep Creek Trail. The Salmon River Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Yeah, come up here to the Salmon River Mountains for a nice time. A great place to camp here at Cooks Lake is California Creek Bar Campground.
This lake is so wonderful. A pleasant spree to Floyd Meadows is a magnificent way to spend an afternoon, needless to say you could also
 
               explore California Lake since you're here; it's not far at all. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Cooks Lake while night lows are regularly in the 40's. Highs through the wintertime are commonly in the 30's while Cooks Lake night low temperatures through the winter are in the 20's. You feel that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. Why not camp at Chinook Campground if you're here at Cooks Lake, and Brundage Mountain has nice slopes and a friendly staff.

I have been to fish lake numerous times. Follow Buffalo Hump rd from Oregrande summit, down to Lake Creek. There follow Lake Creek trail about 3 miles or less to Fish Lake. This route is Calender Canyon. An easy walk. Not steep. Beautiful scenery, and when you get to Fish Lake, don't be surprised to see Moose. I have seen 6 at a time on the lake. A special place to me, as I and my late wife used to go there....
