    Cape Horn Lakes is a lake worth visiting. This lake is located in the wonderful Sawtooth Range. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors enjoyable things the Sawtooth Range has to offer. Near Cape Horn Lakes you discover the Camptender Trail which is a good hiking trail, naturally you could also stop at Island Lake if you're here; it's not far at all. Having a perfect time in the Sawtooth Range is uncomplicated.

   of the year at Cape Horn Lakes highs are mostly in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Cape Horn Lakes are in the 10's. The amount of precipitation that falls at Cape Horn Lakes is close to the national average; the month with most of the snow is January; July meanwhile is the driest month. This is no place for people who don’t like to have a good  
               time. There are some nice whitewater spots on Marsh Creek, and if you came to camp Thatcher Creek Campground is a perfect location to do that.
Visit Asher Creek if you're here at Cape Horn Lakes, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Bear Valley Creek Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Cape Horn Lakes is great enough to spend more than a day at, Lola Creek Campground is a great local campground; a lake nearby is Mable Lakes. The Blue Bunch Trail is a great hiking trail in the neighborhood of Cape Horn Lakes; there's whitewater on Salmon River - Middle Fork for all you thrill seekers.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....

Elk Lake

Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk....
