    If you are in this part of Idaho make sure to pay a visit to Bull Trout Lake. That right there is a load of fun things already but it goes on, the Sawtooth Range has it all. There's brilliant hiking along the Camptender Trail. The warmest time of the year at Bull Trout Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer night lows dip down to the 40's. Highs through the winter are usually in the 30's; during the dark hours in the winter at Bull Trout Lake  
   temperatures sink to the 10's. Lola Creek Campground is a great campground nearby; don't leave Bull Trout Lake without first going for a hike along the Bear Valley Creek Trail.
This lake is so wonderful. There are some splendid whitewater spots on Bear Valley Creek, and glorious hiking is available along the Blue Bunch Trail. If you came for an overnight stay Fir Creek Campground is a pleasant spot to camp, and since you're here why not go to Banner Summit.
 
               Be careful coming to the Sawtooth Range, you might not ever want to go back home again. Don't forget to take a splendid little journey to Bench Creek; almost certainly you're looking for nearby lakes? Sure, Newman Lake is just a very short distance away.
The amount of rain that falls at Bull Trout Lake is close to the national average; the month with most of the snow is January, and the driest month of the year is July. Be careful coming to Bull Trout Lake, you might not ever want to return home again. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Marsh Creek, unsurprisingly you could also take a look at Martin Lake while you're here; it's not far at all. Bull Trout Lake is a beautiful lake in the Sawtooth Range.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....

Elk Lake

Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk....
