    It's always fun to stop by Buck Lake. Buck Lake is a beautiful lake in the Salmon River Mountains. Lakes are splendid; Papoose Lakes is a lake that's near Buck Lake; while you're here you can take a hike along the Big Chief Creek Trail. Whohoo, so much entertaining stuff in one place! The Salmon River Mountains rules! Very pretty scenery and delightful skiing is what you get at Brundage Mountain.
This lake is so wonderful. Hiking along the Mule Hill Trail
 
   is splendid fun; Pistol Creek Campground is a good campground nearby. Buck Lake gets a common amount of rainfall; the month of January is the wettest with most of the snow, and the driest of the months is July. So much amusing stuff to do here at Buck Lake, too great to be true. Remington Creek is in the neighborhood of Buck Lake and is always a pleasure to check out, and get covered with water paddling on Salmon River - Middle Fork.
Paddling on Rapid River
 
               is so much fun; going for a hike along the Big Baldy Ridge Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. At Buck Lake during the summer highs are in the 70's with overnight lows in the 30's. For the period of the wintertime highs are generally in the 30's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Buck Lake. Now, you may believe that's plenty but there's even more fun stuff to do here in the Salmon River Mountains. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always take a look at close by Artillery Lake, and you can stay the night at Sheepeater Hot Springs Campground.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....
