Larkins Lake is in close proximity; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend St. Joe River - Skookum Canyon. There are some perfect whitewater spots on Clearwater River - North Fork, and you can stay the night at Mammouth Springs Campground.

So much entertaining stuff near Blue Lake, clearly impressive. The Dead Mule Trail is a good hiking trail in close proximity to Blue Lake, and why not head up to Lookout Pass and strap some skis to your feet. Mud Lake is one of those close by, and you can see Crag Peak from Blue Lake. So much enjoyable stuff to do in the Bitterroot Range, not enough time. Near Blue Lake you stumble on the Shin Point Trail which is a nice hiking trail.
The Bitterroot Range scenery is always beautiful. On a good day at Blue Lake you can take a hike along the Old Montana Trail, and Blue Lake is a splendid spot to visit for more than one day, Aquarius Campground is a splendid spot to camp nearby.

Lookout Pass

The local ski pioneers chose Lookout Pass because of the abundant snowfall and excellent snow quality which they could access by jumping on the Northern Pacific railcars as they proceeded east from the mining towns of Wallace and Mullan, Idaho.
