This lake is one of the great places here in the Sawtooth Range. Good hiking is available along the Yellow Belly Trail, and Salmon River has a pleasant whitewater paddling spot nearby. Life's too short to enjoy all the amusing stuff right next door to Baron Lakes. A beautiful lake like Bead Lakes in close proximity to Baron Lakes is a brilliant place to check out, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Baron Lakes; Black Warrior Creek Trail is a nice local

| | trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Baron Lakes, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Baron Lakes. Be careful coming to the Sawtooth Range, you might not ever wanna return home again. If you need a place to stay Greyhawk by ResortQuest is a fine choice; if you came for an overnight stay Iron Creek Campground is a fine site to camp. | |

That right there is a heap of fun things already but it goes on, the Sawtooth Range has it all. Here at Baron Lakes you can catch a glimpse of Packrat Peak. Paddling on Salmon River is so much fun, and Point Campground is a good
campground nearby. Baron Lakes is a good location of typical rain; throughout the month of January you get the most snow around here while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes
are such serene spots, why not stop at Blue Rock Lake in the neighborhood of Baron Lakes, and you can go for a hike on the Bull Moose Trail.

 | Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk.... |

Hell Roaring Lake
 | Hi, we (wife and I) walked into the lake the 3rd week of July 2008; we took the unmaintained road to about 200 yards from the trailhead. If you take this in lieu of the walk in, plan on a 40 minute drive to cover 5-miles; your vehicle (should be high-center 4-wd) will get scratched up from the branches adjacent to the road. The parking lot holds 6-vehicles...if you encounter another vehicle coming at you, there are very few areas where you can back into/get off the road to let the other pass; it is a 'long way' to back up on a challenging road. To get to the trail head from the parking lot, you will ford 2-branches of the river/stream (10 ? 20? across)...walk across deadfall with the aid of a walking stick...or walk thru the water...just below the knee. We walked in on a tuesday and encountered 15+ people coming/going on the path. Easy 2-mile walk, many mosquitoes...quicker coming back.... |
