If you like skiing, you're in luck; Soldier Mountain Ski Resort is close to Alturas Lake. The Bull Moose Trail is a brilliant hiking trail near Alturas Lake; drift down the rapids of Salmon River in a kayak. Whohoo, so many entertaining things in one place! The Sawtooth Range is unbeatable! Smoky Bear Campground is a magnificent campground nearby, and if the weather is great, you can go for a hike along the       Yellow Belly Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Do check out Pettit Lake right next door to Alturas Lake, it's a lovely lake, and hey, Cabin Creek is a good local stream. Alturas Lake is a great site to visit for more than one day, Alturas Inlet Campground is a great site to camp nearby, and you'll stumble on a beautiful lake called Perkins Lake. The Sawtooth Range scenery is always beautiful. Through the summertime here at Alturas Lake, high temperatures                  generally get into the 70's with overnight lows in the 30's. For the duration of the winter highs are mostly in the 20's; night lows during the winter for Alturas Lake tend to be in the-10's.
