The Ship Island Trail is a tremendous hiking trail in close proximity to Airplane Lake; the sight of Bighorn Crags is beautiful. Man, is there a load of exciting things to do close to Airplane Lake. Whitewater paddling is good on Camas Creek. Lakes? Sure, Sheepeater Lake is around here. Airplane Lake is a location that is relatively arid commonly; June is the month that gets the most rain while February is typically the driest month.       Paddling on Panther Creek is so much fun, and Airplane Lake is a perfect spot to visit for more than one day, Crags Campground is a perfect spot to camp nearby. Going for a hike on the Clear Creek Trail is always a nice adventure, and Airplane Lake lays in the shadow of the Bighorn Crags. If you want a fine time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Salmon River Mountains. Near Airplane Lake you come across the Waterfall Trail which is a wonderful hiking                  trail. Through the summer months here at Airplane Lake, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 40's. All through the winter highs are usually in the 20's with temperatures at Airplane Lake dipping down into the 0's through winter nights. Yep, outdoors exciting things truly is bountiful here in the Salmon River Mountains. Not far from Airplane Lake, you'll hit upon Shoban Lake which is a delightful lake, and Yellowjacket Campground is a fine local campground.
