It is unfortunately an endangered lake. The Iowa DNR wants to drain this beautiful natural 600 acre lake and turn it into a mucky bug infested marsh. This lake was originally fed with fresh water from underground springs, but after a mishap in the 1930's during dredging of the it's north twin the lake was filled with silt and the natural springs plugged.If the DNR wished to restore this lake to its true natural state they should attempt to open the natural filtering underground springs. You could also stop by North Twin Lake since you're here at South Twin Lake; it's close by; dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Motel - Carroll/East. This lake is so wonderful.; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is January. All through the days of summer here at South Twin Lake, high temperatures generally get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures       plunge down into the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at South Twin Lake.
