Little Platte River
14 miles away We were two stupid college kids using makeshift paddles and $10 rubber rafts trying to go from Old Lancaster road to County D. I have been canoeing lots on lakes and I would say it would be very difficult to make much progress on this stream. There are a lot of small rapids with low rocks. There were parts that were only a few inches deep. We were lucky a lot because our rubber rafts only sit a few inches into the water, but I would think a canoe or kayak might cause problems. Also watch out for a barb wire stretching across about .5 above county D. If you don't mind carrying your canoe a lot, this stream is fairly gentle. There are some pretty rock walls too. I would not recommend this stream in the dry season though....
Leisure Lake
19 miles away Leisure Lake just received a bunch of rainfall recently and the lake is really full. It is still a couple feet down from what it use to be but now is a good time to go there and look how full the lake can actually get. Also Labor Day weekend at Leisure Lake is very fun because it draws tons of people there. There will also be a DJ there Labor Day weekend so if your interested stop on out....Leisure Lake is still an awesome place in 2009!!...Leisure Lake is a beautiful place to hang out on weekends and drive around to get the great view of the lake. The lake has a bar located when coming into Leisure from the highway. Woody lives at the lake and many people that go to bars know him and he is my uncle and a really good guy. If your ever at the lake look around for Woody and get to know him....
Chestnut Mountain
25 miles away I learned to ski at Chestnut Mountain, it's really good to go and learn at a local place like this before you go to the Rockies, so you don't waste time on the bunny slope over there....
