There are wonderful spots to discover along the Hilo Trail, and from Lake Waiau you get a great vista of Mauna Kea. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Lake Waiau without first going for a hike along the Puu Oo Volcano Trail; if you need a place to stay Inn at Kulaniapia is a fine choice. | | year is July. Going for a hike on the Mauna Kea Umikoa Trail is always a glorious adventure; you'll meet a lot of folks from Hilo here. High temperatures at Lake Waiau through the long summer days are in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are usually in the 70's, and night lows at Lake Waiau all through the wintertime frequently dip into the 60's. | |
