You're sure to run into some friendly people from Hilo here. After a long day outdoors Inn at Kulaniapia is a great location to spend a night or two, and you can go for a hike on the Puu Oo Volcano Trail. Kaopapawai Waterhole is a nearby lake that you could go to, and popping by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet. Solomons Waterhole gets a common amount of rain; all through January this area sees                  the most rain; June is when it's the driest.
