Coosa Backcountry Trail
16 miles away
... side of the mountain realizing that being in our early twenties would not save us from severe exhaustion. We found ourselves stopping every five minutes or so to catch our breath. To add to the intense climb, about half way up it started to rain which made the 40F weather a little colder. We decided we were to far into the journey now to turn back, so we pushed on. After a few hours of strenuous hiking we reached the junction of the Coosa and Appalachian Trail. We pushed on for another hour or two until we reached the top and I saw the better than I expected shelter at the summit of Blood Mountain. We staggered in about two at a time a few minutes apart, each small group repeating the same emotion of screaming here it is, or we found it, finally. We camped in the shelter with two other parties and proceeded to drink the liquor we brought with us which helped us keep our mind off the fact that the temp was falling under twenty degrees making for a cold night. The next morning the mountain was covered in ice and light snow. The view was spectacular as you can stand on a HUGE rock that...

I was there during the weekend before the 4th. DO not plan to stay a whole day here. Have a snack see the falls and move on to other falls. I camped here and it was okay. Had a run in with a huge Timber rattler 3/4 of a mile from entrance of Desot and realized camp was below....... Go see the Waters Creek area as well. Have a great lunch for few hours at Vogel North of DeSoto....

Dicks Creek

Well if this is where the big waterfall is. No Iw ould not raft it. Besides if you went way too far down you will run into private proprrty and You will be in huge trouble! For below the falls there are deep pools w/ trout and signs to keep out. What a pretty picture to take. GO with the right person which in my case took the wrong person, Who likes to stop Fish for awhile, see a fall, go on to next stop.Rest, enjoy and move to Desoto or Helen etc. I plan for now on to go to this area of GA 2 to 3 times a year to see the views. Pooh on some of your state parks for camping....
