Youth Camp Lake. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Super 8 Dawsonville is a wonderful spot to spend a night or two, and the DeSoto Falls Trail is a wonderful hiking trail close by. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Etowah River, and as expected Thompson Creek flows through this vicinity.
This lake is so wonderful. Wild Willy Rv's & Campground is a tremendous campground nearby, unsurprisingly

you could also explore Anderson Lake while you're here; it's not far at all. This is no location for people who don’t like to have fun. If you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Country Land Golf Course is close by; on a great day you can take a hike along the Black Mountain Trail.
You're sure to come across some smiling people from Gainesville here, and a lake nearby is Pine Lake. Toto Creek Access Point is not far from Woodmen Youth Camp Lake at all, and if the weather is fine, you can go for a hike along the Brookshire Creek Trail. That right there is a load already, but it goes on; Woodmen Youth Camp Lake has it all. Get your heart beating on the great whitewater of Yahoola Creek, and there's some exciting stuff to spot at Woodmen Youth Camp Dam near Woodmen Youth Camp Lake.
The high level of rainfall makes Woodmen Youth Camp Lake a quite wet place; the wettest month of the year is frequently March, that's the one that rains the most, and October meanwhile is the driest month.

Etowah River Campground
11 miles away
I love camping at Etowah River Campground.  It is secluded and away from the traffic of the big lakes and Corps of Engineers campgrounds.  The owners are VERY friendly and will do anything to make your stay pleasurable.  You can hike and ride your ATV nearby, float the Etowah River or just relax.  There is no reason to run to town after your arrival.  The campsites are also very spacious and roomy, the bath house is clean and well maintained and the grounds are well groomed.  I can't wait to go back.  It may just be the only place I camp from now on....

Cedar House Yurt Cabins
12 miles away
Cedar House Inn and Yurts is not a campground but a bed and breakfast inn....

Chestatee River
14 miles away
This was not a great run, maybe because the water was low, and some guy was telling us it was illegal for us to be on ''his'' river. Check out riparian law dude! The waterway belongs to the public and cannot be obstructed according to federal law- Anyway, the trip included lots of dragging over rocks. Maybe the water was low. We went July 15th 2009, the 11 mile trip which should have taken a day took us the day. However we never made it to the end. And according to Scottie Davis, our rescuer, we would have been spending the night somewhere and then taking another day to get to the end. Well, my bad, kind of jumped into that without a lot of planning, but it was a beautiful ride. Definitely would do again if the river were a little higher. Peace-evagael...

Lake Qualatchee
19 miles away
I notice that there is a Lake Qualatchee a few miles northwest of Cleveland, Georgia. I have never visited the site. Bartram's list of Cherokee towns included a ''Qualatche,'' but it was reportedly on the Flint River, too far away to have a connection with this lake. But, Mooney says a town called Qualatchee was somewhere on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River. Not much else seems to have been written about the town, and I am not yet sure how the lake came to have its name....

I was there during the weekend before the 4th. DO not plan to stay a whole day here. Have a snack see the falls and move on to other falls. I camped here and it was okay. Had a run in with a huge Timber rattler 3/4 of a mile from entrance of Desot and realized camp was below....... Go see the Waters Creek area as well. Have a great lunch for few hours at Vogel North of DeSoto....
