If you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Nancy Town River, and if you need a place to stay Knights Inn & Suites Toccoa is a tremendous choice. If you came to camp Lake Russell Campground is a great location to do that. Walters Pond usually gets a large amount of rainfall; most of the rain falls during March; the driest month of the year is October. is a splendid place for that, and not far from Walters Pond you'll hit upon Dean Lake which is a pretty lake. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is magnificent on Big Panther Creek. Lakes are fine; Martin Pond is a lake
that's in close proximity to Walters Pond. On a pleasant day you can take a look at Hicks Swamp, a swamp near Walters Pond, and you'll almost certainly meet some folks from Toccoa here.

 | ...times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings. Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited due to private ownership of property including the lake basin. The shorelines and surounding hills are populated with native hardwoods and pine, creating scenery which is unsurpassed in the area.  | 14 miles away 1 PHOTO Hi!? I am looking for information.? Recently, I have been going thru old black and white photos that belong to my grandmother.? I have several dozen that are dated Easter Sunday, 1945 (April 1st).? I have being attempting determine the location where these pics were taken.? The only thing grandmother can remember is a name:? Panther Creek Park.? She thought it was somewhere around Corniela.? I found this web page while doing a search for it.? I have included some pics.? The most obvious feature in a lot of this photos is a round brick object that people seemed to spend a lot of time lounging around.? I don't know what to actually call it.? Is this the right park??... |
