Vaughn Lake Dam is a location that is close to Vaughn Lake, and dry warm beds await you at Hyatt Place Atlanta/Duluth/Johns Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Do explore Spratlin Lake close to Vaughn Lake, it's a charming lake. Vaughn Lake is a relatively wet place frequently with lots of rainfall; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is October. | | in the 80's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 60's. For the period of the winter the highs are usually in the 40's; overnight lows through the wintertime for Vaughn Lake tend to be in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. If you came for an overnight stay Sawnee Campground is a brilliant place to camp, and there's whitewater on Big Creek for all you adrenaline kick people. Garden Inn Atlanta North/Johns Creek is a delightful place to get some rest; a round of golf at nearby Hooch Golf Club is a splendid way to kill some time. Why not camp at Twin Lakes Park since you're here at Vaughn Lake, and there
are some great whitewater spots on Settingdown Creek. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Vaughn Lake; Brookshire Creek Trail is a delightful local trail, and if you're looking for a tremendous tour, Chattahoochee River National
Recreation Area is reasonably near. You'll find a beautiful lake called Matthews Lake near Vaughn Lake, and lots of people from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta come here.

Simmons Lake
 | 15 miles away My father had a home in the Echo Lake subdivision in the 1960's and the way I remember what happened to Simmons Lake was that that after Lakeside High School was built the earthen dam that held back Simmons Lake broke and that was pretty much the end of the lake. It wasn't repaired. The small lake next to Briarcliff Road was a separate lake that was fed from Simmons lake and in turn fed Echo Lake. This small lake appears from an aerial photograph to have nearly silted in. The culvert under Briarcliff Road from the small lake to Echo Lake was a favorite haunt for chasing snakes and turtles. I remember Echo Lake being dredged in the 1960's. Back then there was little Echo Lake at the other end of Echo Lake and it no longer exists. Little Echo Lake had a concrete dam that failed a couple of times and I suppose was given up on. The homes in Echo Lake subdivision sold in the 20-25K range. This area was a perfect place for my brother and me to spend summers. Dad told me years later that he wouldn't see us until dinner time in the summer because we spent all day doing things around these la... |
