    Upper Lake George is a lake worth visiting. A quick journey to Gress River in close proximity to Upper Lake George is a tremendous idea, naturally you could also take a look at Hinesville Oxidation Pond if you're here; it's not far at all. Best Western Richmond Hill Inn is a tremendous spot to get some rest, and you can take a little tour to Upper Lake George Dam since you're here at Upper Lake George. After a long day outdoors Knights Inn Richmond Hills is  
   a great place to spend a night or two, and a wonderful place to camp here at Upper Lake George is Sunshine Lake Campground.
For the duration of the summertime months, highs mostly are in the 90's at Upper Lake George. Summer night lows fall down to the 70's. The winter brings highs down to the 60's while Upper Lake George nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 30's. Upper Lake George is a rather wet place regularly with lots of precipitation;
 
               throughout July this area sees the most rain; October meanwhile is the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. A lake nearby is Trophy Lake, and camping is available at Savannah South KOA.

The subject lake was never named Haarley Lake.

When it was first built, it was named after a guy named Haar who, along with his family was killed in a boating accident. He was president of the Savannah Outboard Motor Racing Association.

After the Association, which built the lake, defaulted on its responsibilities to maintain the dam in good order, its owner Bertie D. Burpitt, changed the name to Burpitt's Lake.

After the death of Mr. Burpitt, and eventual sale of the property, the lake was renamed yet again Lake Loraine, which is its name today.

I know all this because Mr. Burpitt was my grandfather and I was raised on the property since before the lake was constructed....
