A splendid nearby hotel is Days Inn Toccoa, and Twin Lakes is not the only spot close by, Reservoir 11 is a close by lake. Knights Inn & Suites Toccoa is a perfect place to get some rest, obviously you could also go to Ayers Pond while you're here; it's not far at all. Some close by water includes Bear Creek; Toccoa City Golf Course is a golf course close by. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Twin Lakes. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into

| | the 60's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 50's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Twin Lakes. Any time is a glorious time at Twin Lakes if you go for the outdoors. Camping is available at Sunset Campground, and there's nice hiking along the Chattooga Trail. This lake is so wonderful. that gets a great deal of precipitation; March is the wettest month with most rain, and October on the other hand is the driest. Camping at Toccoa Rv Park & Campground is always a brilliant experience; get yourself into a kayak and hit Big Panther Creek.

Stonecypher Lake
 | ... south of Toccoa Ga in the foothills of the Smokie Mountains. It is fed by Freeman Creek, McAvoy Branch and Coe Branch. This lake is located on the farm lands of Palmer Simpson Stonecypher and was constructed in the mid 1950's. The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings. Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited ... |

I have several dozen that are dated Easter Sunday, 1945 (April 1st).? I have being attempting determine the location where these pics were taken.? The only thing grandmother can remember is a name:? Panther Creek Park.? She thought it was somewhere around Corniela.? I found this web page while doing a search for it.? I have included some pics.? The most obvious feature in a lot of this photos is a round brick object that people seemed to spend a lot of time lounging around.? I don't know what to actually call it.? Is this the right park??... |
