If you like lakes and you're in this part of Georgia you can check out Timber Lake. Timber Lake truly is in the middle of a stunning outdoors paradise. The panorama of striking Doll Mountain near Timber Lake is tremendous, and do take a hike on the Mountaintown Creek Trail. Timber Lake is a wet site that gets a lot of precipitation; March is when you get the most rain here; October meanwhile is the driest month. You'll need more than a day to look at everything

Best Western Mountain View Inn is a magnificent place to get some rest, and a lake close by is Miller-Grindley Pond. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Super 8 Motels - Jasper is a nice site to spend a night or two, and you can stay the night at Plum Nelly Campground. This lake is so wonderful. McCuller Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Emery Creek Trail. Coosawattee River has a fine whitewater paddling spot nearby, and hiking
is a popular thing to do around Timber Lake; Bear Creek Trail is a fine local trail. Whitewater paddling is nice on Talking Rock Creek, and Timber Lake is not far at all from Calhoun.
For the period of the summertime at Timber
Lake temperatures are mostly in the 80's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Timber Lake temperatures sink to the 20's.

| The General Store @ Eagle Mtn. now has Villa rentals to add to the enjoyment of paddling the Coosawattee, and can provide shuttle service to and from the river. Its a great place to spend the day, and now, you can even spend several days if you wish. Check them out!!...Ran the kayak trip from the General Store this past Memorial Day weekend it was great.The Store was full of customers, but they tried to make everyone feel very special. ...After camping and hosting at Lake Conasauga for the last few years I am very upset about the way people are treating the facilities offered there. As this area grows in popularity, and more and more people use it, I am saddened by the way this beautiful lake and mountian is being abused and trashed. The catch phrase ''Leave only your footprints'' applies to all US National Forests for a reason. One can only assume that you use this camping area for it's beauty and freshness, so why then do so many people leave it in such a mess? To have to pick up over 50 bags of trash, often left scattered about after a non-holiday weekend, is unreasonable. I don't mean to rant or nag, but, it isn't that hard to put a grocery bag in you pocket when fishing along the lake trail and walk out with the trash you create. The hosts in most camp grounds are volunteers and are unpaid. They pay for all of their own expenses to be there in order to keep the grounds and restrooms clean and stocked. Make sure you follow trail long enough to get to the creek bottom..it's wonderful!...Hope to get up there in December...awesome views, challenging and dangerous at some points. Definitely will be back... |
