     There are other spots here than Thurmond Lake, for example Fredrick Lake. There's so much to do here at Thurmond Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Twin Lakes Park is a great site for that. Visiting Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is just something you need to do if you haven't yet; playing golf is lots of fun at Woodmont Golf Club. In the event that you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on  
   Amicalola Creek; hiking along the Brookshire Creek Trail is pleasant fun. Thurmond Lake usually gets a lot of rain; most of the rain falls during March; October is when it's the driest.
Whohoo, so much fun stuff in one place! Thurmond Lake rocks! If you came to camp Marietta Campground is a pleasant site to do that, and Thurmond Lake Dam is not far at all from Thurmond Lake. Dry warm beds await you at Doubletree Hotel Atlanta/AlpharettaWindward, and Shell
 
               Lake is a great lake nearby. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Oakwood at Camden Deerfield is a wonderful place to spend a night or two; a magnificent site for whitewater paddling is Big Creek.
During the days of summer at Thurmond Lake highs are ordinarily in the 80's while night lows are commonly in the 60's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at Thurmond Lake through the winter usually dip into the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. Thurmond Lake is a place with many visitors from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta.

My father had a home in the Echo Lake subdivision in the 1960's and the way I remember what happened to Simmons Lake was that that after Lakeside High School was built the earthen dam that held back Simmons Lake broke and that was pretty much the end of the lake. It wasn't repaired. The small lake next to Briarcliff Road was a separate lake that was fed from Simmons lake and in turn fed Echo Lake. This small lake appears from an aerial photograph to have nearly silted in. The culvert under Briarcliff Road from the small lake to Echo Lake was a favorite haunt for chasing snakes and turtles. I remember Echo Lake being dredged in the 1960's. Back then there was little Echo Lake at the other end of Echo Lake and it no longer exists. Little Echo Lake had a concrete dam that failed a couple of times and I suppose was given up on. The homes in Echo Lake subdivision sold in the 20-25K range. This area was a perfect place for my brother and me to spend summers. Dad told me years later that he wouldn't see us until dinner time in the summer because we spent all day doing things around these la...
