Why not take a refreshing hike along the Mounds Trail, and a lake nearby is Pettit Lake. Through the warm days of summer here at Thompson Lake, high temperatures frequently reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 60's. During the winter highs are generally in the 50's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Thompson Lake sink into the 20's. | | Camp Trail is a great local trail, and Thompson Lake is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Oconee River Campground and Picnic Area is a tremendous local campground. This lake is so wonderful. There are some great whitewater spots on Big Clouds Creek. All the water falling down from the sky makes Thompson Lake a wet location; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and September on the other hand is the driest. on the Scull Shoals Trail, and after a long day outdoors Hilton Garden Inn Athens Downtown is a great site to spend a night or two. But wait, there's more to do near Thompson Lake. Lots of folks from Athens-Clarke County come to Thompson
Lake; Comfort Suites Downtown is a perfect spot to get some rest. Camping at Pine Lake RV Campground is always a great experience; Thompson Lake is not the only site close by, Twin Lakes is a close by lake. There's always Thompson
Lake Dam to go to near Thompson Lake; if you come at the right time of year, Rose Creek offers some great whitewater.
