The beauty of Stewarts Ponds attracts many people from all around. After a long day outdoors Augusta Travelodge is a great location to spend a night or two, and you can run the rapids of Savannah River. This lake is so wonderful. You could also pop by Johns Pond while you're here at Stewarts Ponds; it's close by; Stewarts Ponds is not the only spot close by, Bowen Pond is a close by lake.

| | Ponds without first going for a hike along the Horn Creek Hiking Trail. If you need a site to stay Days Inn Suites Augusta is a good choice; why not spend some time golfing at a nearby golf course like Forest Hills Golf Club. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Turkey Creek Hiking Trail; Bowen Pond Dam is a lovely location.

for whitewater paddling is Stevens Creek. This is no place for people who don’t like to have a good time. Camping is available at Heritage Mobile Home Community, and Stewarts Ponds is a place with many visitors from Augusta-Richmond
County.

| There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams.... |
