     This is a fine region for folks who like lakes. Green Valley Lake is a lake close by, and Sleep Inn Mcdonough is a wonderful site to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Steele Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Mc Dondugh Koa Kampground is a perfect spot for that; get your heart beating on the nice whitewater of Towaliga River. Nearby lakes? Sure, Painted Turtle Lake is near Steele Lake,  
   and at Steele Dam near Steele Lake there are some exciting things to see.
Bethlehem Bottoms is an attention-grabbing thing to see while you're here at Steele Lake, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend South River. Enjoy a round of golf at Cotton Fields Golf Club not far from Steele Lake; Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail is one of the destinations that are brilliant to go to nearby. Steele Lake ordinarily
 
               gets much rainfall; throughout March this area sees the most rain, and September meanwhile is the driest month.
If only every location had this much outdoors entertaining things, what a great planet it would be. After a long day outdoors Quality Inn & Suites Conference Center is a wonderful site to spend a night or two. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Steele Lake has to offer, you can camp at Shingle Roof Campground. All through the days of summer at Steele Lake highs are ordinarily in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 50's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Steele Lake temperatures dip to the 30's.

So is it illegal to put in wherever you want along the river if you have somewhere avail? Putting in at Killian Hill Rd , the best white water is just down river from HWY 78 to the Yellow River Park.  Beyond the park is unknown territory....Yellow river at Poterdale can get pretty tough after a good rain. Bring your A game!...water from 124 to porterdale is about 3 feet average in the summertime. lots of fun. easy river. clean too. lots of fallen trees in the water, great wildlife, snakes, turtles and fish. the dam in porterdale is easily passed adn the rapids following are verry shallow. email at coadydraven@yahoo.com with questions....

have paddled several streams in area, including high falls from below horseshoe rapids to ga 42. very similar to lil' towaliga - very shallow, rocky, bumpy ride... high water makes for better ride but can be dangerous with rocks, sharp bends in channel w/ falls, rapids around corners, watch out for snakes and (...)....
