Don't miss out on a glorious swamp; Boggy Bay is right here at Starlins Pond; if you need a spot to stay SpringHill Suites Statesboro University Area is a great choice. Starlins Pond sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is October. Through the summer months here at Starlins Pond, high  
   temperatures frequently reach the 90's while overnight lows are regularly in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 50's with temperatures at Starlins Pond dipping down into the 30's through winter nights.

Haarley Lake

The subject lake was never named Haarley Lake.

When it was first built, it was named after a guy named Haar who, along with his family was killed in a boating accident. He was president of the Savannah Outboard Motor Racing Association.

After the Association, which built the lake, defaulted on its responsibilities to maintain the dam in good order, its owner Bertie D. Burpitt, changed the name to Burpitt's Lake.

After the death of Mr. Burpitt, and eventual sale of the property, the lake was renamed yet again Lake Loraine, which is its name today.

I know all this because Mr. Burpitt was my grandfather and I was raised on the property since before the lake was constructed....
