     You'll discover a pretty lake called Sanford Lake near Stanford Lake, and not far from Stanford Lake you get some pleasant water scenery at Tharp Lake Dam. If you came to camp Marietta Campground is a delightful location to do that; if you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Bradshaw Farms Golf Course is in the neighborhood. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn ATLANTA/ROSWELL, and whitewater paddling is splendid on Marsh  
   Creek. The Brookshire Creek Trail is a perfect hiking trail near Stanford Lake; you'll meet a lot of people from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta here.
Do stop at Tharp Lake close to Stanford Lake, it's a pretty lake, and the vistas at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area will blow your mind. But wait, there's more to do close to Stanford Lake. Stanford Lake is nice enough to spend more than a day at, La Siesta RV Park is a nice local campground; Best
 
               Western Roswell Suites is a great place to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. In case you don’t mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Big Creek.
Stanford Lake sees pretty high levels of precipitation; throughout March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is October. All through the long summer days at Stanford Lake temperatures are usually in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the wintertime highs are usually in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Stanford Lake temperatures drop to the 20's.

I've lived less than a couple of miles from this lake and I didn't even know it existed until today while looking at google maps of the area around my house. I wonder how many people know about it? I wonder if it's on private property....

My father had a home in the Echo Lake subdivision in the 1960's and the way I remember what happened to Simmons Lake was that that after Lakeside High School was built the earthen dam that held back Simmons Lake broke and that was pretty much the end of the lake. It wasn't repaired. The small lake next to Briarcliff Road was a separate lake that was fed from Simmons lake and in turn fed Echo Lake. This small lake appears from an aerial photograph to have nearly silted in. The culvert under Briarcliff Road from the small lake to Echo Lake was a favorite haunt for chasing snakes and turtles. I remember Echo Lake being dredged in the 1960's. Back then there was little Echo Lake at the other end of Echo Lake and it no longer exists. Little Echo Lake had a concrete dam that failed a couple of times and I suppose was given up on. The homes in Echo Lake subdivision sold in the 20-25K range. This area was a perfect place for my brother and me to spend summers. Dad told me years later that he wouldn't see us until dinner time in the summer because we spent all day doing things around these la...
