     Simmons Pond is good enough to spend more than a day at, Daisy Farms RV Park is a good local campground, and while you're here, you could also stop by striking Starlins Pond. For the duration of the summertime at Simmons Pond temperatures are typically in the 90's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's, and overnight lows during the wintertime for Simmons Pond tend to be in the 30's. This lake is so wonderful.  
   If you need a location to stay SpringHill Suites Statesboro University Area is a magnificent choice, and McDonald Pond Dam is a place that is right next door to Simmons Pond. Haarley Lake

The subject lake was never named Haarley Lake.

When it was first built, it was named after a guy named Haar who, along with his family was killed in a boating accident. He was president of the Savannah Outboard Motor Racing Association.

After the Association, which built the lake, defaulted on its responsibilities to maintain the dam in good order, its owner Bertie D. Burpitt, changed the name to Burpitt's Lake.

After the death of Mr. Burpitt, and eventual sale of the property, the lake was renamed yet again Lake Loraine, which is its name today.

I know all this because Mr. Burpitt was my grandfather and I was raised on the property since before the lake was constructed....
