Stonecypher Lake
 | 18 miles away ...h and Coe Branch. This lake is located on the farm lands of Palmer Simpson Stonecypher and was constructed in the mid 1950's. The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings. Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited due to private ownership of property including the lake basin. The shorelines and surounding hill... |
Enota Resort and Campground
 | 18 miles away ...T and the waterfalls, or watch the kids fish for trout in the pond in front of the Lodge The land is pristine, laced with waterfalls and streams totally accessible to both RV camping (full hook-ups) or tent camping. The cabins are rustically charming and recently more modern motel-type rooms have been added within view of the waterfall. Some of the structures on this property are CCC-built and the staff also honors Enota's Cherokee heritage as well, with a sweat lodge, sacred circle, drumming and the occasional Native American presenter, who happened to be leading the Sweat Lodge ceremonies when we were there this spring. We discovered that Enota is a non-profit ecological and teaching facility as well, and we campers and cabin folk mingle at the weekend breakfasts in the Lodge with the staff and the volunteers who help run the campgrounds, the gardens or the animal farm. This campground has newly remodeled restrooms and plentiful showers and also has trampolines for the kids (and me!) We were there as a church retreat group was departing and they had a big group sing the evening b... |
