You can run the rapids of Savannah River near Rhodes Pond; Country Hearth Inn Augusta is a tremendous site to get some rest. All through the summertime months here at Rhodes Pond, high temperatures typically get into the 90's. During the moonlight hours it's typically in the  
   60's. Through the wintertime highs are mostly in the 50's, and overnight lows during the winter for Rhodes Pond tend to be in the 30's. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this site. Stay the night at Fox Hollow Camp Ground, and an afternoon playing golf at Pointe South Golf Club is always a joy. Nearby lakes? Sure, Babcock Wilcox Lake is near Rhodes Pond; needless to say Grindstone Branch is a pretty stream that is worth going to.

There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams....
