I have never visited the site. Bartram's list of Cherokee towns included a ''Qualatche,'' but it was reportedly on the Flint River, too far away to have a connection with this lake. But, Mooney says a town called Qualatchee was somewhere on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River. Not much else seems to have been written about the town, and I am not yet sure how the lake came to have its name. If you have a thing about the outdoors you'll have a thing about it here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Near Lake Qualatchee you find a golf course called Innsbruck Resort & Golf Club, and if you've had enough of Lake Qualatchee, Lothridge Lake is nearby. Lake Qualatchee is fine enough to spend more than a day at, Jenny's Creek Campground is a fine local campground, and Big Gap is another fine place to explore       close by. Jellystone Dam is charming and it's in the neighborhood of Lake Qualatchee, and you can go for a hike on the Whitly Gap Trail. You'll in fact wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you're going to Lake Qualatchee from Cornelia, you won't be the only one, and don't leave Lake Qualatchee without first going for a hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. This is no place for people                  who don’t like to have fun. This lake is so wonderful. One of the main features of the surroundings of Lake Qualatchee is Double Head, and there are some great whitewater spots on Dodd Creek. Throughout the summer, highs regularly are in the 80's at Lake Qualatchee. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Lake Qualatchee. There's whitewater on Chestatee River for all you adrenaline kick people, and camping at Brookside Camp Ground is always a great experience.
