     Powers Lake Dam is pretty and it's close to Powers Lake, and after a long day outdoors Suburban Extended Stay Woodstock-Atlanta N is a good spot to spend a night or two. Throughout the warm months here at Powers Lake, high temperatures mostly reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. Highs through the winter are typically in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Powers Lake. All the outdoors amusing stuff near Powers Lake  
   will keep you coming back over and over. If you haven’t been to Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, you have to schedule some time for it while you're here, and paddling on Sope Creek is so much fun. Colony Land Development Lake is a nearby lake that you could take a look at.
There are plenty of folks from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta here at Powers Lake. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Powers Lake has to offer, you can camp
 
               at La Siesta RV Park. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Hampton Inn AtlantaWoodstock; Powers Lake is a great place to visit for more than one day, Marietta Campground is a great place to camp nearby. Do have a look at North Landing Lake near Powers Lake, it's a lovely lake, and float down the rapids of Marsh Creek in a kayak.
A great deal of rain falls at Powers Lake; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; the driest month is October.

My father had a home in the Echo Lake subdivision in the 1960's and the way I remember what happened to Simmons Lake was that that after Lakeside High School was built the earthen dam that held back Simmons Lake broke and that was pretty much the end of the lake. It wasn't repaired. The small lake next to Briarcliff Road was a separate lake that was fed from Simmons lake and in turn fed Echo Lake. This small lake appears from an aerial photograph to have nearly silted in. The culvert under Briarcliff Road from the small lake to Echo Lake was a favorite haunt for chasing snakes and turtles. I remember Echo Lake being dredged in the 1960's. Back then there was little Echo Lake at the other end of Echo Lake and it no longer exists. Little Echo Lake had a concrete dam that failed a couple of times and I suppose was given up on. The homes in Echo Lake subdivision sold in the 20-25K range. This area was a perfect place for my brother and me to spend summers. Dad told me years later that he wouldn't see us until dinner time in the summer because we spent all day doing things around these la...
