Chestatee River
 | 13 miles away This was not a great run, maybe because the water was low, and some guy was telling us it was illegal for us to be on ''his'' river. Check out riparian law dude! The waterway belongs to the public and cannot be obstructed according to federal law- Anyway, the trip included lots of dragging over rocks. Maybe the water was low. We went July 15th 2009, the 11 mile trip which should have taken a day took us the day. However we never made it to the end. And according to Scottie Davis, our rescuer, we would have been spending the night somewhere and then taking another day to get to the end. Well, my bad, kind of jumped into that without a lot of planning, but it was a beautiful ride. Definitely would do again if the river were a little higher. Peace-evagael... |
Etowah River Campground
| 13 miles away I love camping at Etowah River Campground. It is secluded and away from the traffic of the big lakes and Corps of Engineers campgrounds. The owners are VERY friendly and will do anything to make your stay pleasurable. You can hike and ride your ATV nearby, float the Etowah River or just relax. There is no reason to run to town after your arrival. The campsites are also very spacious and roomy, the bath house is clean and well maintained and the grounds are well groomed. I can't wait to go back. It may just be the only place I camp from now on.... |

| 14 miles away We stayed at this campground in October 2005. It is nice camp ground and very reasonable with the cost. Grounds are well keep and it is neat and orderly. I intend to stay there this coming october. I would recommend it.... |

Lake Qualatchee
| 17 miles away I notice that there is a Lake Qualatchee a few miles northwest of Cleveland, Georgia. I have never visited the site. Bartram's list of Cherokee towns included a ''Qualatche,'' but it was reportedly on the Flint River, too far away to have a connection with this lake. But, Mooney says a town called Qualatchee was somewhere on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River. Not much else seems to have been written about the town, and I am not yet sure how the lake came to have its name.... |
DeSoto Falls Trail
 | 19 miles away I was there during the weekend before the 4th. DO not plan to stay a whole day here. Have a snack see the falls and move on to other falls. I camped here and it was okay. Had a run in with a huge Timber rattler 3/4 of a mile from entrance of Desot and realized camp was below....... Go see the Waters Creek area as well. Have a great lunch for few hours at Vogel North of DeSoto.... |
