If you're interested in hydro structures, you can check out Oak Lake Dam; there's whitewater on Savannah River for all you adrenaline junkies. Here at Oak Lake you'll possibly meet some people from Augusta-Richmond County, and there is a fine hiking trail close by called the Horn Creek Hiking Trail. A magnificent place to camp here at Oak Lake is Heritage Mobile Home Community; after a long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Augusta Ft Gordon Belair is a perfect place

There's just no way anyone can get bored here at Oak Lake. There are other places here than Oak Lake, for example Mobile Home Park Lake B, and Americas Best Inns-Augusta Grovetown is a good place to get some rest. Throughout the summer at Oak Lake temperatures are mostly in the 90's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's with winter lows in the 30's overnight | |

This lake is so wonderful. You can run
the rapids of Stevens Creek near Oak Lake, and camping is available at Byron Mobile Home and Camper. Oak Lake usually gets a good deal of rain; the month with most of the rain is March; November is when it's the driest.

Savannah River
| There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams.... |
