Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is rather in the neighborhood of Nelson Lake, and a fine nearby hotel is Suburban Extended Stay Kennesaw. Nelson Lake sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is October. This lake is so wonderful. There are some great whitewater spots on Rottenwood Creek. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Nelson Lake       has to offer, you can camp at Kennesaw Koa Kampground. Be careful coming to Nelson Lake, you might not ever want to return home again. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always explore nearby Chastains Lakes, and Residence Inn Atlanta Kennesaw/Town Center is a delightful place to get some rest. During the summer months here at Nelson Lake, high temperatures typically reach the 80's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 60's. The cold days of                  the winter come with highs in the 50's with temperatures at Nelson Lake dipping down into the 30's through winter nights. West Chastain Lake Dam is gorgeous and it's right next door to Nelson Lake. There's so much to do here at Nelson Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Atlanta North KOA is a perfect place for that. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Sope Creek, and you'll meet a lot of people from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta here. This is a good region for people who like lakes.
