    If you are in Effingham county it's always a good idea to stop by Morgans Pond. This place, Morgans Pond, it just has so much outdoors entertaining stuff. The scenery at Morgans Pond Dam near Morgans Pond is beautiful, and if you've had enough of Morgans Pond, Gartrell Lake is close by. If you need a spot to stay Red Roof Inn & Suites Savannah Airport-Pooler is a fine choice, and Morgans Pond is not the only location close by, Zeigler Pond is a close by lake.
 
   Morgans Pond gets a lot of water; August is the month that gets the most rain, and October is when it's the driest. During the days of summer at Morgans Pond highs are frequently in the 90's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are generally in the 50's, and nighttime lows through the wintertime for Morgans Pond tend to be in the 30's. If you came for an overnight stay Bellaire Woods Campground is a great site to  
               camp, and why not camp at Whispering Pines Campground since you're here at Morgans Pond.
This lake is so wonderful. A great nearby hotel is Four Points by Sheraton Savannah Airport; the cheerful people of Savannah like to hang out close by.

The subject lake was never named Haarley Lake.

When it was first built, it was named after a guy named Haar who, along with his family was killed in a boating accident. He was president of the Savannah Outboard Motor Racing Association.

After the Association, which built the lake, defaulted on its responsibilities to maintain the dam in good order, its owner Bertie D. Burpitt, changed the name to Burpitt's Lake.

After the death of Mr. Burpitt, and eventual sale of the property, the lake was renamed yet again Lake Loraine, which is its name today.

I know all this because Mr. Burpitt was my grandfather and I was raised on the property since before the lake was constructed....
