A wonderful site for whitewater paddling in close proximity to McKay Lake is Whooping Creek, and dry warm beds await you at Newnan-Days Inn. You can take a little spree to Rock Cabin Lake Dam while you're here at McKay Lake, and obviously, this is a good area for folks who like lakes, Bridgehaven Lake is a lake in the vicinity. | | rain, and the driest month is October. Be careful coming to McKay Lake, you might not ever want to return back home again. SUPER 8 MOTEL - NEWNAN is a brilliant spot to get some rest; why not camp at Flat Creek Campground while you're here at McKay Lake. You can run the rapids of Snake River in close proximity to McKay Lake, and camping is available at Papillon Resort and RV Campground. This lake is so wonderful. close by; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by close by Rock Cabin Lake. For the duration of the summer here at McKay Lake, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's. All through the dark hours of
summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's with temperatures at McKay Lake dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. While you're here at McKay Lake you can play some golf at Orchard Hills Golf Club.

Whooping Creek
 | ...nkle deep 90% of the way. I have lived on this creek my entire life and have barely been able to find a spotdeep enough to swim in most years. It is however a great place to hike and camp. I dont know much about the adjacent property owners but in 29 years have never been bothered hiking the section between Clem-Lowell road and Hwy 5 (the section you are referring to).The section on the opposite side of hwy 5 is owned by Inland Paper and posted. There are a few property owners on shilo church road that will allow you passage to the water. I have floated a canoe to the river on this section after months of rain, but in general it is also too shallow. There are some deep holes in this section of the creek that offer great bream and bass fishing. The fishing is best closer to the river and it is not uncommon to catch 7# striped bass swimming up from the river looking for food. A gob of nightcawlers or a small rooster tail work excellent for all species. It is a beautiful stream and will not dissappoint for quiet and solitude, but not worth the hassle for kayaking.
