There's always Mathews Dam to stop by near Mathews Lake; hiking is a popular thing to do around Mathews Lake; Mounds Trail is a great local trail. Mathews Lake is a rather wet place mostly with lots of rain; the wettest month of the year is mostly March, that's the one that rains the most; September is the month with the least moisture. is a great place to spend a night or two. Some close by water includes Little Sugar Creek, and camping is available at US Forestry Department. Good hiking is available along the Scull Shoals Trail, and you'll find a lovely lake called Walker Lake.

Twin Bridges Trail
 | 18 miles away The Twin Bridges Trail is a bit strenuous and half of it is along the lake. It ends near a hunting camp where trash is dumped by campers. I really wish the trail were longer. USFS needs to consider walk-in camping with a parking area to require campers to walk 1/4 mile to the sites. The gate needs to be locked to the lakeside lots except for hunting season.... |
