     Lake Oglethorpe is always a pleasure to visit. Some of the water close by flows, like Goulding Creek, and Lake Oglethorpe is not far at all from Athens-Clarke County. This lake is so wonderful. Lake Oglethorpe is a good place to visit for more than one day, Oconee River Campground and Picnic Area is a good place to camp nearby, and a great nearby hotel is Comfort Suites Athens. The warmest time of the year at Lake Oglethorpe comes with high temperatures in  
   the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 50's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Lake Oglethorpe.
Yep, outdoors exciting stuff to do are beyond doubt plentiful here at Lake Oglethorpe. You'll find a stunning lake called Thompson Lake near Lake Oglethorpe, and Lake Oglethorpe Dam is a gorgeous place, absolutely worth going to. Lake Oglethorpe gets a lot of water; most of the rain falls all
 
               through March, and September is the month with the least moisture. Have a delightful hiking adventure along the Mounds Trail; Holiday Inn Athens,Ga is a nice spot to get some rest.
If you come at the right time of year, Rose Creek offers some great whitewater, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Scull Shoals Trail. Hiking along the Falling Camp Trail is good fun, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Big Clouds Creek. This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Lake Oglethorpe has to offer, you can camp at Watson Mill Bridge State Park.
