Camping is available at Flynn's Inn Camping Village, and Lake Aumond Dam is a lovely location, unquestionably worth visiting. Savannah Suites Augusta is a splendid site to get some rest, and you can have a pleasant hiking adventure along the Horn Creek Hiking Trail. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Lake Aumond you can take a hike along the Turkey Creek Hiking Trail, and a tremendous site for whitewater paddling is Stevens Creek. While you're

| | here at Lake Aumond, you could also go to beautiful Garden Springs Lake, and an afternoon playing golf at Forest Hills Golf Club is always a delight. Lake Aumond is a pretty wet place ordinarily with a great deal of precipitation; all through March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is November.  | There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams.... |
